linerunners
Linerunners were formed from the remnants of two Hereford bands "Beyond This" and "The Fex".
Steve and Phil Davies, being the "Fex" half, with Tobias Armitage and Nick Betts hailing from "Beyond This".
They quickly developed a distinctive sound and song writing style whilst gigging in and around Hereford, before recording their first EP in 1998, followed by another in 2001.
Charlotte Millward-Brookes joined in 2006, adding a new vocal dimension and another two EP's have followed in subsequent years.
They are currently working on an album.
With masses of percussion, a loudhailer and a driving bass, Hereford's Linerunners perform original material with a highly distinctive sound and style. Influences include Nick Cave, Joy Division, Leonard Cohen, Alabama 3 and P J Harvey. One reviewer described them as "A hybrid of 60,s west coast legends Jefferson Airplane and 80,s Liverpool moptops Echo & The Bunnymen" .
"Linerunners are all about light and shade.
Their light comes from Lotty Millward-Brookes and its shade (and sometimes darkness) is supplied in abundance by co-frontman Toby Armitage.
The band’s frontline works like a high contrast photo – with Lotty’s highlights cranked up to the max but Toby’s shadows delivered as dark as possible.
Lotty has a smooth and sweet voice, while Toby has a dark Doomsday growl that suggests something menacing is stirring.
Together their combination brings both apocalyptic melodrama with the promise of sunshine and longer days sometime in the future."
